Yoga and Pilates are exercise forms that not only help people stay fit, but also help them recover faster. As a result, cricketer KL Rahul, who recently suffered a hamstring injury, was spotted doing Pilates exercises on the reformer.

“Closer,” Rahul captioned the Instagram post.

The reformer, invented by Joseph Pilates, is a bed-like frame with a flat platform that rolls back and forth on wheels. The carriage, as per Pilates instructor Isha, is attached to one end of the reformer by a set of springs. “The springs enable the practitioner to adjust the resistance to the carriage, which is pushed and pulled along the frame by the practitioner’s own body weight and strength,” she explained.

According to experts, Pilates, which focuses on strengthening muscles around the spine, pelvis, and abdomen, aids in the treatment of back pain, postural pain, and biomechanical injuries. However, depending on the individual assessment of the injury, the exercise that will not aggravate the condition could be chosen.

The reformer provides all Pilates benefits, including overall strength, flexibility, coordination, and balance.

“These things, in turn, lead to daily life improvements such as better posture, efficient movement, and, most importantly, help to relieve pain-related physical imbalances such as back pain,” she explained.

The reformer has remained an essential piece of Pilates equipment, providing a compelling (and fun!) way to lengthen and strengthen the body’s muscles.
