According to research published in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, four seconds of hard intervals for a minute of total effort help increase middle-aged and older persons’ strength and fitness. It was also shown that three months of HIIT enhanced cardiac function in persons with type 2 diabetes without requiring any medication or dietary changes.

Cardiovascular exercise, lowering bad cholesterol, increasing good cholesterol, reducing anxiety owing to endorphin production, improving blood circulation, strengthening lung health, and regulating blood sugar are all advantages of optimal cardio activity.

HIIT is better suited for people who wish to create maximal power in the shortest amount of time. Furthermore, people searching for a quick exercise may be tempted to HIIT, according to Varun Rattan, co-founder of The Body Science Academy in Noida.

Registered nutritionist Garima Goyal stressed that such workouts have an ‘afterburn’ effect, which means that even after the activity is over, the body continues to burn calories. “You require more oxygen for recuperation, which increases the body’s metabolism and causes you to burn more calories,” she explained.

HIIT results in a “more productive day with better attention and cognitive abilities,” according to Goyal.

How can you improve your HIIT performance?

Before engaging in such workouts, Goyal recommends consuming a snack heavy in carbohydrates and protein, such as a fruit smoothie glass with milk and banana, peanut butter with figs, or low-fat Greek yoghurt with fresh fruits.

“Post HIIT, recovery foods should contain sufficient protein such as dairy products, eggs, and omega 3 rich foods such as fish etc. taken within 30 minutes to one hour of exercise. “Sip water continuously during, before, and after HIIT workouts,” she said.

The performer, who enjoys a range of physical activities, wrote a post on how she likes to break the monotony.
