Doing random exercises in the gym after getting motivated watching your favorite contestant on Mr/Ms. Olympia will only get you so far.
We all have someone we look up to. In the bodybuilding world, there is not a shortage of people telling their ways as to how they acquired their current body. While they talk to their followers about how they got to where they are in fitness, there are a few pointers that are generally disregarded as something presumed to be common sense. However, more than half the people just go to the gym for the sake of it and anticipating for results which in reality won’t ever come their way.
Here are some gym mistakes one should avoid for full benefits and/or results :
1. An Unplanned Gym Session If you plan on going to the gym tomorrow, it is best advised to create a routine that you will be following. Not only will this make you waste less time at the gym, but will also prevent you from looking like a clueless rat lurking around with no set destination. Following a weekly routine in cycles will help you reach your goals faster than being too impulsive with them.
2. No Warmup Nobody wants to get a muscle pull in their first exercise of the day at the gym. That will make you lose on time, on energy, on motivation, or even the next few days if it’s something serious. Therefore, to avoid such complications one should always take out a few minutes before their main workout to stretch and heat up their body. As they say, prevention is better than cure.3. Inconsistent Training Going to the gym on one day, skipping it for the next 3, and then coming back will only make you run in circles. It will become a never-ending phenomenon and you will get nowhere. If you are not consistent and serious with your training, then it’s something that you need to change immediately. Even while lifting weights, one should always aim for progressive and consistent overload over time.
4. Getting distracted by your phone You are at the gym for working out and not texting your friends & family. If you are easily swayed away with a ping on your phone, then it’s best advised to keep it in your car or not bring it altogether. Not only do you lose time while surfing through your phone but it also makes people around you judgemental. These days most gyms have central music, so if that’s a major concern then the “no phone policy” should be adopted. 5. Ego lifting You are in a competition with yourself and no one else. Big gyms are going to have a lot of people and every person will have a different strength level. Comparing yourself with the big & bulky lifter and getting anxious knowing you can’t lift half the weight he’s lifting will make you demotivated to work and get to that level one day. Ego lifting is also a major cause of many gym accidents which can be lifelong. Do what your body can handle. If you’re going above your usual weight, always make sure to have a spotter or a person nearby in case of any mishap.
These mistakes are very common. Some people do them knowingly which is not the right road, you’ll be slowing your progress and wasting your time. Do the right thing and see the difference!
